UNDERSTANDING YOUR COVERAGE
How Idaho Medicaid and Magellan Work Together
The Idaho Behavioral Health Plan coordinates mental health and substance use services for eligible Idaho residents. Magellan Healthcare manages these behavioral health services on behalf of the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare.
People enrolled in Idaho Medicaid generally receive their behavioral health benefits through the Idaho Behavioral Health Plan. Depending on eligibility, clinical need, provider participation and plan requirements, these benefits may apply to substance use treatment and care for co-occurring mental health conditions.
Insurance terminology can be confusing. You do not need to understand every part of your plan before contacting Honor. Our admissions team can collect the necessary information, review available benefits and explain what we are able to confirm.
Benefit verification does not guarantee authorization, payment or admission. A clinical assessment is also required to determine whether Honor Behavioral Health is an appropriate treatment provider and which level of care may fit your needs.
WHAT IOP MAY PROVIDE
Multiple weekly sessions
More Structure than traditional Outpatient therapy
Treatment While Living at Home
Continue daily responsibilities outside treatment hours
Individualized planning
Recommendations based on a confidential assessment
Continuity of support
Step up, step down or continue care as needs change
FLEXIBLE, STRUCTURED OUTPATIENT CARE
Intensive Outpatient Program in Boise
Honor Behavioral Health’s Intensive Outpatient Program, commonly called IOP, provides structured addiction treatment without requiring an overnight stay. Participants attend multiple treatment sessions each week and return home after programming.
IOP may be appropriate for adults who are medically stable but need more support than occasional outpatient therapy. It can also provide a gradual transition from PHP, residential treatment or another higher level of care.
Treatment That Fits Into Everyday Life
IOP allows participants to remain connected to work, school, family and other responsibilities while receiving consistent clinical support.
Depending on each person’s assessment and treatment plan, IOP may include:
-
Individual therapy
-
Group therapy
-
Substance use education
-
Coping and emotional-regulation skills
-
Relapse-prevention planning
-
Recovery planning and accountability
-
Support for co-occurring mental health concerns
-
Coordination with continuing-care resources
Who May Benefit From IOP?
Intensive outpatient treatment may be considered for adults who:
-
Need more structure than weekly therapy
-
Can remain reasonably safe and stable outside treatment hours
-
Are returning to care after a recurrence of substance use
-
Are stepping down from a more intensive program
-
Need continued support while rebuilding daily routines
-
Want treatment that accommodates important responsibilities
A confidential assessment helps determine whether IOP provides an appropriate level of support. Eligibility, authorization and coverage under Idaho Medicaid or Magellan depend on the individual’s benefits and clinical circumstances.
A HIGHER LEVEL OF OUTPATIENT SUPPORT
Partial Hospitalization Program in Boise
Honor Behavioral Health’s Partial Hospitalization Program, or PHP, provides intensive daytime addiction treatment for adults who need substantial structure without 24-hour inpatient supervision.
Participants attend scheduled programming during the day and leave the clinical setting afterward. When clinically appropriate and available, supportive housing may provide a recovery-focused place to live outside program hours.
More Structure and Clinical Contact
PHP generally provides more treatment time and structure than an Intensive Outpatient Program. It may be considered when someone is beginning recovery, stepping down from residential treatment, returning to treatment after relapse or finding that a less intensive program does not provide enough support.
An individualized PHP plan may include:
-
Individual and group therapy
-
Addiction education
-
Relapse-prevention planning
-
Emotional-regulation and coping skills
-
Recovery-focused goal setting
-
Psychiatric support when clinically appropriate
-
Treatment for co-occurring mental health concerns
-
Case coordination and discharge planning
PHP Without an Overnight Hospital Stay
Despite its name, PHP does not ordinarily require admission to a hospital or residential facility. It combines frequent daytime treatment with opportunities to practice recovery skills outside program hours.
PHP is not appropriate for every situation. Someone experiencing dangerous withdrawal symptoms, an immediate safety concern or a need for continuous medical monitoring may require detoxification, inpatient treatment or another service first.
Honor’s admissions team can review current needs, discuss available options and verify applicable Idaho Medicaid or Magellan benefits. Verification does not guarantee authorization, payment or admission.

WHAT WE TREAT
STABILITY OUTSIDE TREATMENT HOURS
Structured Supportive Housing in Boise
A stable living environment can make it easier to stay engaged in treatment and practice healthier daily routines. Honor Behavioral Health offers structured supportive housing for eligible adults who benefit from added stability, accountability and connection to recovery resources.
Supportive housing works alongside outpatient treatment. It does not replace medical detoxification, inpatient care, therapy or other clinical services.
A Recovery-Focused Living Environment
Depending on individual needs, program requirements and availability, structured supportive housing may provide:
-
A substance-free residence
-
Clear routines and shared expectations
-
Greater accountability during early recovery
-
Coordination with PHP, IOP or continuing care
-
Support for attending treatment appointments
-
Opportunities to practice independent living skills
-
Connection with peers and recovery resources
-
Planning for a more independent living arrangement
Supporting Progress Toward Independence
The purpose of supportive housing is not to make someone permanently dependent on a program. It provides a stable bridge while residents strengthen recovery skills, rebuild routines and prepare for greater independence.
Housing participation and clinical treatment are related but separate. Placement in supportive housing does not automatically determine which clinical program is appropriate. Honor’s team considers treatment needs, safety, recovery supports, housing circumstances and current availability.
Coverage and housing arrangements vary. Honor’s admissions team can explain current options and review whether applicable services may be covered through Idaho Medicaid or Magellan.
